Drummer Dave Weckl Joins the K for Musicians Family
Costa Mesa, CA (January 24, 2013) — QSC Audio Products, LLC is pleased to welcome drummer Dave Weckl into the K for Musicians family. A professional drummer since the age of 16, Weckl has been performing for nearly three decades with a diverse selection of artists, getting his first major break with Simon and Garfunkel on the duo’s 1983 tour.
After being introduced to the QSC K Series at the 2012 NAMM Show, Weckl auditioned a system at the company’s Costa Mesa headquarters and selected a system for himself comprised of a pair of KW122’s and a single KSub.
“My rig sounds fantastic with very little, if any, EQ on the speakers,” reports Weckl. “The K Series reproduce my acoustic drum sound in a very natural, yet very high fidelity, manner. And the headroom is unbelievable; the rig has much more power than I ever use on stage.”
According to Weckl, his KW Series setup has had a very positive effect on the way that he plays. “My K rig allows me to be comfortable, to be able to compete with the other amps and provide a seriously killing drum sound on stage,” he explains. “It also gives me the low-end support I need from the bottom of the kit, which is almost impossible to find in other systems. This 'comfort factor' allows me to relax, play and concentrate on the music, which is where my concentration needs to be.”
Weckl has toured with a wide range of artists over the years, including a nine-year working relationship with Chick Corea, in both the keyboardist’s Elektric and Akoustic bands. As a session drummer, Weckl has played with Madonna, George Benson, Barry Manilow and a host of other jazz, rock, pop and R&B artists.
Recently returning from Europe with Chris Minh Doky and the Nomads, Weckl also frequently performs with guitarist Mike Stern, Chuck Loeb and Oz Noy. Between tours he can be found at his home studio in Los Angeles, where he offers a full-service recording and production service. He has released nine albums as a solo artist, five under the Dave Weckl Band moniker, and has produced a number of instructional videos and DVDs.
Weckl adds that the K Series meshes perfectly with his personal approach to audio, capturing the natural sound of his drums while imparting pleasing hi-fi characteristics, and also delivering sufficient power even on a loud stage.
“I've finally found a system where I don't have to work at getting a good sound, especially where the low end is concerned,” adds Weckl. “With the K Series, it's like you're sitting in the control room of a great studio listening a great mix over very expensive studio monitors with nothing to do but basically turn them on. KILLING!”
