MUSIC LAB IGNITES NEW BUSINESS WITH QSC
|
AUSTIN, TX
Spread out over three locations here in the musical heartland of Texas, Music Lab is on its way to becoming a mecca of sorts for musicians around the nation and beyond. Offering professional equipment rental, sales, repair, and recording services, the firm recently added three rehearsal rooms to its facility at 500 E. St. Elmo on Austin's south side. Attracting clientele including the Dixie Chicks and the UK's Blur in their first weeks of operation, the rooms are designed with complete flexibility in mind, and utilize a sound reinforcement design based around ISIS loudspeaker systems from QSC.
"The rooms can accommodate anything from events to full-scale production rehearsals," explains Music Lab Studio Manager and Chief Engineer Tim Gerron. "The largest is 2,375 square feet, and can house a 40 x 40 stage. We've had a variety of people in-and-out of here from the get-go, primarily using the three spaces for rehearsals and preproduction for either shows or tours."
Sound for the rooms is as versatile as the functions held in the spaces themselves, thanks to an ISIS-based inventory from QSC using self-powered 215PCM subwoofers and both 122M and 152M full-range multipurpose loudspeakers. Power across the board for any system Music Lab may create generally comes from QSC's PowerLight 2 Series.
"The QSC gear is lightweight and compact, yet delivers a sound so potent that most clients choose a house-created rig over bringing in one of their own," Gerron adds. "We can create just about any kind of system imaginable, in either biamp or passive configurations, flown as a house PA or assembled as sidefills for monitors. The QSC gear is great in that it makes life easy for setup and teardown in any application, and can not only float between rooms, but can make it out into a rental rig too if required. As business picks up, we have every intention of filling all three spaces with QSC."
The ISIS 122M and 152M loudspeakers are full-range, two-way devices outfitted respectively with 12- and 15-inch low frequency transducers. Featuring active (biamp) or passive crossover capabilities, each is housed in a rugged composite enclosure offering superior strength and reduced weight. A full assortment of hardware including L-track flybars and facilities for pole-mounting complements each unit, while the multi-angle cabinet design of each makes for simple transitions between monitor and FOH chores.
