Acoustic Guitarist Robert Raudenbush Goes Natural With QSC K Series Active Loudspeakers
January 2010 - Joplin, Missouri - Robert Raudenbush is a rare breed. An acoustic guitarist who performs instrumentals exclusively, and exclusively in churches and youth centers, music is both Raudenbush's passion as well as an expression of his faith. As an acoustic musician, presenting his very personal music with a high level of quality in mid-size and larger venues comes with real challenges. First, among those is amplifying his acoustic guitar without losing the essence of its natural sound. The quest for natural acoustic sound caused Raudenbush, in mid 2009, to audition a pair of QSC K Series K12 powered speakers against his system at the time, as well as to a larger QSC HPR system and another brand's larger powered system. After extensive comparisons, Raudenbush selected the QSC Audio K Series system. With an American Midwesterner's matter-fact outlook and tone, Raudenbush concedes those larger systems were "very nice," but were larger than what he was looking for. "Compactness and mobility were important to me," Raudenbush asserts, continuing, "but, at the same time, I did not want to sacrifice power or sound quality." Looking under the hood of his QSC K12 loudspeakers validates Raudenbush sacrificed nothing in the way of power. With two 500 watt, quick response, Class D amplifiers in each cabinet powering the low and high ends separately, and internal DSP that helps deliver dynamics accurately rather than just stifling them to avoid clipping, the natural sound of the two K12 loudspeakers he uses is "remarkable," Raudenbush states. Beyond more natural dynamics important to the guitarist, Raudenbush's sound got even more natural with the elimination of signal processing he found necessary in the two amplification systems he previously owned. "I used to use a dbx graphic EQ and a dbx sub-harmonic synthesizer, but because of the tonal quality of the K Series, I found the sound to be exceptionally smooth and it really didn't need any type of enhancing" Raudenbush concluded.
