QSC has converged expertise in amplifiers, signal processing and loudspeakers into a spectrum of active loudspeakers built on an over-arching goal: that all models share the same design philosophy and accurate acoustical performance facilitating the mixing of models within an installation. Ranging from a compact and potent eight-inch twoway utility loudspeaker to a fixed-arcuate line array system, all K Family models feature the same power module, DSP, and performance characteristics. Models are differentiated by coverage angle, LF extension, woofer diameter and enclosure size. K Family's professional appearance and outstanding performance make them ideal for spaces ranging from nightclubs to houses of worship; even mid-sized performing arts centers. With K Family there's no "good, better, best" there's only "best, best, best".
When amplifier engineers design a stand-alone power amp they have to design it to withstand worst-case and unpredictable loudspeaker loads. When loudspeaker engineers design an externally-powered loudspeaker they have to design it to handle excessive power and over-driven amplifier output. But when QSC amplifier and loudspeaker engineers work in tandem to design an active loudspeaker system they know all the variables. The amplifier will provide the exact power the transducers need and the transducers will handle every last bit of power the amplifier delivers. Add finely calibrated DSP processing to manage and optimize performance while protecting the amplifier and ransducers, and the result is a fully-functional, self-contained system with every element working to its maximum potential.
But DSP offers more than just amplifier and transducer protection; it is also used to apply Intrinsic Correction™, a holistic, QSC approach to loudspeaker system tuning. First introduced in our concert line array systems, Intrinsic Correction features FIR and IIR filters and enhances the loudspeaker's overall sound without the need to set additional external DSP. The amount of "tweaking" during system commissioning and the likelihood of a poorly tuned system are greatly reduced saving you time and money while increasing client satisfaction.
As active loudspeakers, all DSP limiter and protection settings and amp-to-transducer wiring is inside the box, significantly eliminating the most common causes of loudspeaker malfunction - inadvertent disconnection or poor system tuning. Moreover, active loudspeakers only require line level signal levels, significantly reducing line loss incurred when using standard loudspeaker cables.
A typical line of installation loudspeakers offers a variety of woofer sizes, each combined with a choice of several waveguides. This approach however, ignores one obvious point the coverage of the woofer is unaffected by the high-frequency waveguide. Woofer coverage narrows as frequency increases and the larger the woofer, the narrower its coverage will be at the crossover. For any given woofer diameter and crossover frequency there is only one optimum high-frequency waveguide coverage pattern. Any other combination will compromise power response and off-axis performance.
QSC's DMT™ (Directivity Matched Transition) design concept addresses this challenge. All models feature an axisymmetric waveguide that is matched in coverage to the directivity of the woofer at crossover. Instead of ignoring or battling the laws of acoustics, K Family loudspeakers work with them. For example, the 105° waveguide used on the K8 matches the directivity of that model's 8" woofer. The KW152 60° waveguide matches the directivity of that model's 15" woofer. The result… consistent sound reproduction across the loudspeakers' nominal coverage area and superior spatially averaged power response.
K Family loudspeakers offer deployment options that will make them among the favorite problem solving tools on your equipment list. All two- and three-way K and KW models can be suspended using M10 fittings. Additionally, all K Series two-way enclosures can be mounted to truss, beams or other suitable structure using optional yoke mount accessories. KLA loudspeakers can also be economically deployed via M10 fittings — the use of an array frame is optional.
In addition to the M10 fittings, the KLA Series features the SOLO™ (Single-Operator Logistics) rigging system. Entirely selfcontained, SOLO completely revolutionizes the way fixed arcuate line arrays are deployed. With this unique system, installers can quickly assemble (and disassemble) a line array in a fraction of the time of comparable systems - without the need for special tools or external hardware. In less than ten seconds, installers can quickly and effortlessly secure two KLA boxes together, significantly lowering labor costs. Light weight, self-powered and easy to deploy, KLA may very well represent a client's first real opportunity to fully embrace line array technology.
The Remote Level Control featured on all K Family products offers your clients a clean and easy way to control the output level of an entire K Family installation using a simple 10k ohm wall mount pot. Simply speaking, if the rig is not loud enough or the front of house engineer or DJ's mix is a bit too hot, with the twist of a knob the pastor, club manager or other designated personnel can quickly and easily make the necessary level adjustments. For greater control, you can also use two separate wall controllers one for the full-range enclosures and the other for the subwoofers or better yet, create zones.
K Family loudspeakers feature an incredibly efficient power amplifier, mitigating AC power consumption concerns on multiple levels. In fact, the amp module is so efficient that up to five K Family loudspeakers can operate on a single 15A, 120VAC (8A, 230V) circuit! Moreover, the 100 - 240 volt universal power supply helps to prevent system malfunctions during unexpected power sags.
You're in business to make a profit and the equipment you recommend needs to deliver the maximum return on investment for your clients. Whether for a front-of-house P.A., background music or a multipurpose AV application, with K Family products, there is an active loudspeaker solution for just about every job. The K Family's sonic consistency and unparalleled flexibility make them "go-to" products for a number of fixed installation applications. You'll need fewer specialty loudspeakers to effectively bid and specify a job and you'll spend less time researching loudspeaker options to fill niche applications, shortening design times and delivering more profit for your business. K Family packaging is also 100% recyclable, helping mitigate any potential construction impact fees you might be assessed on the job.
With a proven reputation for premium sound quality, long-term durability and overall value, QSC's easy-to-install K Family products save you time and labor while providing your clients with the kinds of quality solutions that deliver tangible and impactful results.
